Since 1997, Shore Medical Center has been the Atlantic County's lead agency for the NJ Cancer Education and Early Detection (CEED) program. Supported by both federal and state grant funds, CEED provides free screenings to Atlantic County residents with income and insurance challenges. CEED covers breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancer screenings.
The federal Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000 allows states to expand Medicaid coverage to eligible women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer. On July 1, 2001, New Jersey adopted this coverage when Acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco signed the bill into law during a ceremony held at Shore Medical Center.
If you are uninsured or underinsured and have a limited income, call the CEED office located in the Shore Cancer Center at 609- 653-3484 for more information on how to get a free breast, cervical, prostate or colorectal screening.
