The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Care Network

Shore Medical Center is the only CHOP Newborn & Pediatric Care facility in the region -- part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Care Network. The CHOP Newborn & Pediatric Care Program at Shore provides area families with the highly specialized inpatient care that The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is known for around the world, in the convenient and reassuring setting of your local community hospital.

Under this program, Children's Hospital-affiliated pediatricians offer 24-hour-a-day inpatient pediatric and newborn care at Shore Medical Center. These physicians support Shore's pediatricians and obstetricians in the care of their patients and provide assistance for pediatric emergency cases.

Since 1999, Shore Medical Center and Children's Hospital have collaborated in pediatric primary and secondary care, managed care, clinical and educational relationships, enabling Shore Medical Center to provide area children with the highest level of 24-hour pediatric medical care in the region, including:

Inpatient pediatric program: Shore Medical Center's Pediatric Care Center has CHOP pediatric physicians on site 24-hours a day, seven days a week, to admit, consult and provide ongoing care to children.

Newborn coverage: CHOP pediatric hospitalists and neonatologists trained and experienced in newborn resuscitation and stabilization, are available to support deliveries or act as consultants, as requested by a patient's pediatrician or family physician.

Protocols and consultations for pediatric emergencies: In cooperation with the medical director for emergency services at Shore Medical Center, Children's Hospital physicians help to develop new protocols for management of common pediatric emergencies and are available for consultation with emergency physicians. Educational support for Shore's pediatric nurses: Shore Medical Center's pediatric and maternity nurses, currently certified in their respective specialties as well as neonatal, pediatric and adult advanced life support, have access to the specialized educational services, programs and resources of the nursing education program at Children's Hospital.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the nation's first hospital for children, is a world leader in patient care, education and research.
