Digital Mammography Services

Shore Medical Center is one of the few facilities in the state offering full-field digital mammography (FDM).  Shore's low dose units provide the earliest possible detection of breast cancer. Our dedicated mammography suite offers privacy and the sensitivity of a caring, specially-trained and certified staff. The digital mammogram is fast, generating images within 10-15 seconds. The monitor displays a high quality image providing the technologist with quick verification of correct patient positioning. Images can be electronically manipulated by the radiologist who can zoom in, magnify, and optimize different parts of breast tissue without bringing a patient back for additional images. Use of the zoom improves detection of micro-calcifications and the inverted image contributes to better interpretation.

For information or to schedule your mammogram, call the Shore Diagnostic Imaging Department at 609-653-3555.

Mammography Preparation

Mammogram

Do not wear perfumes, deodorant or powder. These products may show up on a mammogram which would require additional and otherwise unnecessary imaging. If you had mammograms taken elsewhere please provide those films to us prior to your appointment. This will allow the radiologist to compare the current mammogram to an earlier one for a thorough study.

Stereotactic Biopsies

Do not wear perfumes, deodorant or powder. You may eat a light meal prior to the procedure and take your medications as normal. However, if you are taking blood thinners please consult with your surgeon to receive specific directions.

Excisional Biopsies

You will receive instructions regarding diet and medications at your pre admission testing appointment. There is no additional preparation for this study.
