Exploring Careers in Medicine and Healthcare

Are you a teen interested in a rewarding career filled with adventure and challenges? If so, then you are encouraged to consider a profession in medicine and health care. You would not only enrich the lives of thousands, but your own as well. Join Medical Explorers now and start exploring "behind the scenes" of healthcare.

About Medical Explorers

The Medical Explorers is a co-ed club, open to all students ages 14 - 20 interested in pursuing careers in medicine or learning more about opportunities in the medical field. Meetings are held beginning the third Wednesday in September and then the first and third Wednesday of each month through May. The final meeting is held the first week in June. Meetings begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.

Meetings consist of presentations by physicians, healthcare workers, tours within the hospital, and off-site visits. Exploring provides valuable peer leadership, as it is youth-led. We understand that the life of a student is busy and that seasonal sports and school or faith based clubs and activities may prevent students from attending every meeting. There are no minimum mandatory participation in meetings. Students are simply encouraged to participate in programs as frequently as possible throughout the year.

Exploring programs are based on five areas of emphasis: career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience.

Fun Activities

Explorers participate in community service activities such as annual trick-and-treat night, holiday visitation, and interacting with children in hands-on activities at Bayfest each spring in Somers Point.

At the close of each school year, we celebrate with an annual spring trip. Periodic fund-raising activities are held to offset the cost. Previous trips include visits to:

  • University of Medicine and Dentistry
  • The Mutter Museum
  • Deborah Heart and Lung Center
  • Liberty Science Center's Cardiac Classroom
  • The BodyWorlds exhibit at the Franklin Institute
