On August 29, 2012, Ruth Newman Shapiro (RNS) Cancer and Heart Fund President Joanne Kenny presented Shore Medical Center President and CEO Ron Johnson and Vice President/Foundation Chief Development Officer Thomas J. Mundell with a check for $50,000, completing RNS’ $500,000 pledge in generous support of Shore Cancer Center’s RNS Radiation Therapy Suite. The donation will be used to upgrade the center’s Image Guided Radiation Therapy.
Since 1983, RNS has donated nearly $2 million to Shore Medical Center. Kenny, of Margate, NJ, commended Shore for its ongoing efforts and the use of state-of-the-art technology in providing exceptional care to the region’s cancer patients.
“We are proud to support the Shore Cancer Center, and to help bring the most advanced technology for cancer treatment to the community,” Kenny said.
One of Shore Medical Center’s six Centers of Excellence, the Cancer Center’s state-of-the-art radiation and medical oncology programs enable patients to receive all of their care and treatment under one roof. The Cancer Center, which is affiliated with the Penn Cancer Network, has received national recognition from the Association of Community Care Centers. Since 1987, the center has also been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons for meeting that organization’s stringent standards for patient care.
In July of 2012, Shore introduced its Advanced Pulmonary Diagnostic Center. Led by leading area pulmonologist Dr. Bennett Ojserkis, it is the first center in Southern New Jersey to address the growing number of patients being diagnosed with lung nodules and other spots. The center offers a one-stop approach to providing patients with a fast, convenient and comprehensive way to have their nodules evaluated and monitored by the region’s most passionate and highly skilled pulmonary team.
