Shore Medical Center Honors Volunteers At Annual Recognition Dinner

October 26, 2012

Every year, more than 350 volunteers give their time, skills and compassion to help keep Shore Medical Center operating smoothly, ensuring patients and visitors receive the best healthcare experience possible. Shore Medical Center, in partnership with the Somers Point Rotary Club, held its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, NJ, on October 17, 2012.

Rotary Club member Peter Garvey hosted the evening, attended by 180 people and featuring several award presentations. Lee Alverson, of Somers Point, NJ, was honored with The Board of Trustees Chairman Award, which is presented each year to a volunteer who has generously dedicated themselves to Shore Medical Center. Since 1979, Alverson, who volunteers at the Front Desk, has donated more than 6,000 hours of service to Shore.

Carla Heist, of Ocean City, NJ, was presented with the Somers Point Rotary Club’s Service Above Self Award, which is given annually to a volunteer who consistently goes above and beyond to offer assistance whenever called upon. Since 1999, Heist, who also volunteers at the Front Desk, has contributed more than 3,000 hours of service as a Shore volunteer.

Shore Medical Center President and CEO Ron Johnson presented volunteer Edith Kemble, of Ocean City, NJ, with flowers and a gift to honor her 40 years of donating time to Shore. In the last four decades, Kemble has amassed more than 11,000 hours of service in areas including the Front Desk, organizational development and coordinated care.

Johnson also honored the Somers Point Rotary Club for its 40 years of sponsoring the Volunteer Recognition Dinner.
