Civic leaders, physicians and Shore Medical Center leadership and staff gathered on October 22, 2013, for a reception honoring Shore’s affiliation with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The medical center is the 16th member of the Rutgers CINJ Network, and the first in Atlantic County.
Guests gathered in the 4th Floor Boardroom of Shore’s Surgical Pavilion, where they met leading physicians from Rutgers CINJ. The evening included remarks by Rutgers CINJ Director Dr. Robert S. DiPaola, who praised the Shore Cancer Center for its commitment to providing patient-centered care to members of the South Jersey community.
“We are committed to being a resource for the entire state and that includes the southern New Jersey shore. Having the opportunity to come down to Shore and see this facility only continues to drive all of us to help Shore serve this community,” Dr. DiPaola said. “We appreciate the opportunity Shore has given us to help you serve the patients they have here.”
As a member of the Rutgers CINJ Network, the Shore Cancer Center is able to offer its patients enrollment in CINJ clinical trials while having them receive care and treatment locally in Somers Point. Shore’s patients also receive access to community education, outreach and other services provided by Rutgers CINJ that complement the medical center’s comprehensive cancer program.
“There are only 41 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. It’s so exciting to be working with the only one in the State of New Jersey,” said Donna Cericola, RN, OCN, Administrative Director of the Shore Cancer Center. “We have had a wonderful start to our affiliation, which will help us continue to provide the highest quality cancer care to our patients.”
