Seven-year-old Egg Harbor Township entrepreneur gets deal at Shore Medical Center's Local Business Fair

December 16, 2014

On Thursday, December 11, Shore Medical Center (SMC) hosted its "Locals First" Business Fair. More than 60 businesses from the local area met with SMC’s Purchasing and Marketing departments to discuss ways in which to spur business opportunities and develop partnerships. Several business deals were immediately signed at the event, but one in particular stood out among the others.

A charming young entrepreneur named Sarai Marie Jackson came to the event for her first-ever business experience. Sarai, a vivacious outgoing 7-year-old girl with a million dollar smile, was there representing "Kissy Face Kollections." The story behind "Kissy Face Kollections" is an extension of a little girl’s imagination, and one that we would like to share with you.

About two years ago, Sarai's parents noticed her eyelashes and eyebrows shedding.  Next, the edges of her hair began to shed drastically as well.  Within six months her eyelashes, eyebrows and hair edges grew back in.  It was during this past October that Sarai began shedding all of her hair. She woke up one morning and most of her hair was on her pillow.  After numerous doctor visits and tests Sarai was diagnosed with alopecia.

Worried the kids in school would taunt her, her grandmother decided to create a variety of beautiful head coverings. Thus, "Kissy Face Kollections" was born.  "KFK" is a collection of handmade, custom designed head coverings, which can be ordered with 100 percent human hair in black, brown, red or blonde. Sarai wants other little girls who lose their hair, whether from alopecia or chemotherapy, to feel beautiful without their hair.

Upon meeting Sarai and her grandmother and seeing her fine work, SMC representatives purchased a selection of head coverings from the KFK collection, and are making them available in the Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center’s gift shop.
