Carpenter Paul O’Brien of Palermo Named Shore Medical Center’s August Employee of the Month

September 23, 2016

For consistently delivering outstanding patient-centered service and embodying Shore Medical Center’s Mission, Vision and Values, Shore is proud to announce that carpenter Paul O’Brien of Shore’s Plant Operations department has been named the medical center’s August 2016 Employee of the Month.

O’Brien joined Shore Medical Center in 1996, working in a number of maintenance and plant operations positions over the past two decades, including maintenance mechanic, boiler room/incinerator engineer, and, most recently, carpenter.

O’Brien’s handiwork can be found throughout the medical center, from patient care areas to our Art Gallery where he assists with art installations. He has been instrumental in creating the Healing Environment at Shore and making the hospital a better place.

A talented carpenter who takes great pride in his work, O’Brien sees each job through to a successful conclusion.  He is viewed as an essential member of both the maintenance and planet operations departments. While O’Brien is primarily a carpenter now, he maintains his boiler operator license so he can cover boiler room shifts when there is a need.

Humbled by his recognition, O’Brien says Shore has been a good place to work. His advice to others is to work hard, help others and go the extra mile for patients and families.

“You never know, you could be in their shoes,” O’Brien said.

A resident of Palermo, O’Brien is a family man who enjoys spending time with his wife Sandra and children Rebekah, Jacob and David. In his spare time, he enjoys church activities, golf and gardening.
