Shore Memorial Hospital’s Neuroscience Center Re-certified as Primary Stroke Center

January 14, 2010

Shore Memorial Hospital’s Neuroscience Center has been recertified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. The hospital was first accredited in 2005.

This re-certification recognizes Shore Memorial’s strict adherence to national standards and guidelines that help diagnose and treat stroke patients faster and with better outcomes.

The Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center certification is based on the recommendations for stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements/guidelines for stroke care. As a Primary Stroke Center, Shore Memorial follows protocols issued through the American Stroke Association/American Heart Association and Joint Commission.

“We provide excellent care for our stroke patients,” says Sandy Smith, RN, MSN, MBA, administrative director for nursing quality and logistics at Shore Memorial. “The dedication, teamwork and quality care delivered by all members of the stroke team are reflected in the continued certification of our stroke program.”
