Shore to Host “Wellness Together” Panel Discussion on the Opioid Epidemic

Shore Medical Center is launching a new quarterly community health education series, “Wellness Together”, with the first event focusing on pain management and the opioid crisis in Atlantic and Cape May counties. The panel discussion will be held Wednesday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at Greate Bay Country Club, 910 Somers Point – Mays Landing Road, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and includes light desserts and refreshments. 

Guests will hear from experts in healthcare, law enforcement and mental health and addiction agencies and learn how they all work together to prevent opioid addiction and help those who are struggling with opioid use disorder. 

Featured panelists include Tracy Fooks, LCSW, LCADC, Social Worker, Shore Medical Center; General Surgeons Dr. David May and Dr. John J. Millili, Shore Physicians Group; Sherriff Eric Scheffler, Atlantic County Sherriff’s Office; and Laurie K. Smith, Community Initiatives Coordinator, Join Together Atlantic County. 

In addition to the panel discussion, guests will have an opportunity to tour the mobile outreach vehicle Hope One Atlantic County, an initiative by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department to tackle opioid addiction. Guests will also have an opportunity to visit information tables before and after the panel discussion. Additional events in this series, “Wellness Together”, will happen quarterly.
