Members of the Shore Medical Center Auxiliary present a check for $445,000 to the Shore Board of Directors. The Auxiliary raised the money at several golf tournaments, the Tree of Lights ceremony, in the gift shop, the two Shore Thrift Shops and the annual Kids Swim.
The Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center presented Shore President and CEO Ron Johnson with a check in the amount of $445,000 at a ceremony held Jan. 23 at the hospital. The donation is the direct result of all of the Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts throughout 2019.
The Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center is the hospital’s original fundraising organization and is comprised of dedicated volunteers in the community who give generously of their time and talent throughout the year. An important partner with Shore since its inception in 1940, the Auxiliary has donated more than $16 million to Shore Medical Center over its 80-year history through efforts that include golf tournaments, the hospital gift shop, the Shore Auxiliary thrift shops in Somers Point and Marmora, the Tree of Lights Ceremony, and the annual Carol Schiavo Kids Swim for Health.
In addition to the check presentation, the Auxiliary also inducted members to its Executive Board, welcoming Brenda Martello back to her second year as the chairman; Delores Dengler Vitas, treasurer; Lynn Brock, corresponding secretary; and Peggy Doyle, membership chairman. Additionally, 16 members were recognized for their years of service, ranging from 5 years to 50 years with Nancy Rubin being recognized for a half century of dedicated service.
Shore Auxiliary members are a group of dedicated volunteers of all ages who work together to assist Shore and the community while having a good time. The Shore Medical Center Auxiliary is an integral part of the community, making a positive impact while the members forge new friendships.
Chairman Brenda Martello works full time as a paralegal with the federal government aside from steering the Auxiliary. She said her first year was a learning experience and the membership pulled together to make a very successful year.
Martello added, “There is a lot of excitement for 2020 with new events in the planning stages like a high tea and the return of the fashion show. The Auxiliary is a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers from different backgrounds, different ages and different walks of life all working together for the hospital and the community and that is something we are all very proud of.”
The highlight of the afternoon was a surprise from the Shore Medical Center Board of Directors to the Auxiliary: a beautiful vase mounted on a trophy base with a plaque in recognition of 80 years of unwavering dedication and generosity to Shore Medical Center and the Shore Memorial Health System. Board President David Beyel presented the trophy to Brenda Martello and all members of the Auxiliary, saying, “The dedicated volunteers and their significant help for the past 80 years make so many things possible.”
