Jen Runfolo, Shore Medical Center’s 2018 Employee of the Year, was shocked to hear her name called by Chief Nursing Officer Linda Kenwood at special ceremony held on Feb. 21. “I am so honored and very surprised to be chosen because all of the other Employees of the Month do truly care about the people here and were also deserving of this honor,” said Runfolo, who is an employee pharmacist. “One of the very best parts of my job is knowing that I can help employees and hopefully make it a little easier for them to be able to do what they do best, and that is helping our patients.”
Kenwood read at the ceremony some of the accolades co-workers had bestowed upon Runfolo. “It’s our job to care for people – whether they are patients, visitors or peers – and we do it exceptionally well as an organization. It’s no secret how we’ve been able to build this culture. Jen Runfolo embodies that go-the-extra-mile attitude,” Kenwood said.
“She is always two steps ahead, even with our family and making sure everyone is happy and healthy,” said Runfolo’s younger sister, Kim Rowe, who surprised her at the ceremony in DiOrio Hall Thursday afternoon.
Runfolo celebrated 10 years at Shore in December. As an employee prescription pharmacist, she may not provide direct care to patients. What she does is care for staff, putting their minds at ease while providing a service that allows them to manage their own health so they can focus on our patients.
In her role, Runfolo interacts with Shore staff and retirees on a daily basis. Her care and compassion have drawn notice from all corners of the organization. In fact, she was nominated for Employee of the Month by a member of the payroll team, whose words encapsulated why Jennifer is deserving of this honor.
“Jennifer goes out of her way to help anyone with their prescriptions. When I picked up my husband’s prescription she had already searched and found a coupon for me to use, so she saved me a lot of money,” says Angela Adamakos. “I appreciated what she did because it shows that she cares for other people. That was not the first time. She will always go the extra step to help, and even call the doctors to get refills.”
Pharmacy Director Matt Piskun backs that sentiment up: “Jennifer has made customer service a priority,” he says. “She’s told me more than once that she thinks working at Shore is a privilege, and she backs up her comments with action.”
Runfolo is a resident of Hammonton. She was one of 12 considered for Shore Medical Center Employee of the Year and was voted on by all of the Shore Medical Center employees. As Employee of the Year, Jen received an Employee of the Year pin, an engraved walnut plaque, an Employee of the Year Certificate, her name on a plaque in the employee walkway, a $300 TD Bank gift card, an Auxiliary Gift Shop gift certificate, a dedicated space in the parking garage for one year, an invitation to the Annual Service Awards Banquet, and is nominated for the Planetree Caregiver of the Year Award.
