They are the friendly and compassionate voices on the phone. They are an all-important link between the community and the hospital. They are essential to facilitating communications between members of the staff.
They are the #shorehealtcareheroes of the Shore Medical Center Communications Department.
Our team of dedicated operators work around the clock to make sure that we are able to effectively communicate with each other and the public. With the visitor restrictions in place due to the pandemic, the team at the call center often are the first to speak with a friend or relative of a patient. The caller may understandably be frantic and upset, and it is the kind and calm voice of the operators that provides a sense of serenity and security.
The communications team also manages codes, stats and alarms for the hospital. The team is willing to help in any way possible and that includes providing Shore Medical Center with a touch of positivity when a COVID-19 patient is discharged. When they are notified of this, they play the song “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang on the overhead sound system. This helps lift the spirit of the staff and other patients who are being treated at the hospital.
“I am most proud of the operators for dealing gracefully with the situation we find ourselves in,” said Terri Jones, Communications Supervisor for Shore Medical Center. “With heightened anxiety from the public concerning this pandemic, the operators have been here to help them navigate through issues and help put them at ease. Their dedication and commitment to Shore has been inspiring.
