This past year has been among the most exciting and fulfilling in the history of Shore Memorial Hospital - now known as Shore Medical Center. The way in which our new name has been so eagerly accepted and received by the community, and the appreciation that has been shown for our efforts, has been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.
The thrill of watching the dream of our new Surgical Pavilion and Campus Expansion become a reality is an achievement we can all share with great pride. It is truly a testament to the efforts of the many exceptional physicians, dedicated employees and Boards of Trustees who have worked so passionately on behalf of our community for more than 70 years.
Along with the initial decision to move ahead and construct our new Surgical Pavilion and Campus Expansion were a host of smaller yet equally important decisions that served to lay a solid foundation on which this beautiful new facility was built. Key among those decisions was to maintain Shore’s status as an independent hospital while continuing to seek out and expand our member status and affiliations with some of Philadelphia’s leading healthcare providers. We also continue to welcome new, exceptional physicians to our staff; whether locally based or from other outstanding medical facilities such as the University of Pennsylvania Health System, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, The Jefferson Neuroscience Network and The Rothman Institute. Last, but not least, was the decision to adopt the Shore Medical Center name in an effort to more accurately describe the services we provide to our patients.
We have also integrated the patient-friendly Planetree model as a key element in the design of the our new facilities; acquired the newest, most advanced medical technology available; and committed ourselves to sustainability and the preservation of the natural beauty of South Jersey by ensuring our buildings were eco-friendly. While all of these things were taking place, we held fast to the one thing that really makes Shore Medical Center the best – our passion to provide the highest levels of compassion and quality for the people we care for every day.
When you look at all that we have accomplished in such a short period of time, it is easy to assume that we have completed all we intend to accomplish. Let me assure you that we have truly Only Just Begun!
