Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR)

Summary:

The Basic Life Support Course teaches the how to perform single and two-person CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for adults, infants and children.

Description:

This course is intended for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of situations, including in-hospital, and out-of-hospital settings. These healthcare providers may include physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMS, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel. This course is also designed for anyone who is required to take a healthcare provider course for employment. This course does NOT include First Aid.  If your employer requires First Aid, CPR and AED please see the Heartsaver course option.

For a first time AHA BLS certification, or fist time CPR training, we offer a fully instructor led classroom structure which is named "Full BLS". This is offered once monthly and assures that all details are covered with an instructor in the classroom (not partially online).  This is also for those who had a prior BLS certification that expired/lapsed.  Contact the Training Center office to Register.

The American Heart Association also offers Blended Learning courses (hybrid format). We utilize this to renew a BLS certification that has not yet expired.  For BLS recertification, please go: https://elearning.heart.org/course/437 and take HeartCode BLS on-line.  Call 609-653-3962 to schedule an appointment for skills testing at Shore.  Once you have completed the HeartCode BLS on-line Part 1 print the completion certificate which must be submitted to this office.

The skills testing process takes approximately 45 minutes and the classes are limited to two students per session with an instructor.  You will have time with the instructor, to review, ask questions and practice before being tested.  The HeartCode® BLS, Part 1 Completion Certificate is required for entry into the Skills testing.  Upon successful completion of the skills portion you will be eligible to receive a BLS Provider eCard

All BLS (Full Class and Skills testing) is held in the Conference Center across Shore Road from the hospital, on the corner of New York Avenue and First Street.  Enter the building from the parking lot behind the building (between Centre Street and the bicycle path).

A non-refundable fee of $46 covers both your Skills Testing and your completion card.  For Full BLS with the instructor (not hybrid), the fee is $80.00 including your ecard. This can be paid with a check or Money Order or with a credit card over the phone when you are scheduling.

Skills days begin at 7:30/8:15am with appointments at 45 minute intervals, filled on a rolling basis (next available opening). Some afternoon appointments are available. Please call for more information, and for scheduling.
