Please see the Updated Interim Guidance May 20, 2020  provided by the American Heart Association regarding 'grace periods' and extensions for expirations of AHA Instructor and Provider Course Completion Cards.


The Life Support Training Center is authorized by the American Heart Association to teach BLS, ACLS, PALS and HeartSaver CPR classes to our employees as well as community members.  We also process cards and support 140+ community BLS/CPR instructors.

Effective 10/01/2018, course completion will be documented via eCards.  A unique email address will be required for each participant – please do not use a shared email address.  Students who have already created an account with the American Heart Association (AHA) should use the email associated with their existing account.  Instructions to claim eCards will be provided at each class.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.

Refund/Payment/Cancellation Policy: Payments are due with registration.  Refunds only when cancellation notice is received 2 weeks prior to course date.  Substitution of course date is permitted within the calendar year.  No refund after this time. 

Course registration is not confirmed until you have received our welcome letter, directions and manual, if purchasing from us. If you do not receive your materials within two weeks after submitting your registration form, please contact the Training Center at 609-653-3962.

It is recommended that you call to confirm seating before submitting registration.

Current provider manual is required for all classes.  See registration form for number  of appropriate 2015 course manual.  It is strongly suggested that participants review the manual before class.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR)

Summary:

The Basic Life Support Course teaches the how to perform single and two-person CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for adults, infants and children. 

Description:

This course is intended for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of situations, including in-hospital, and out-of-hospital settings. These healthcare providers may include physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMS, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel. This course is also designed for anyone who is required to take a healthcare provider course for employment. This course does NOT include First Aid.  If your employer requires First Aid, CPR and AED please see the Heartsaver course option.

The American Heart Association offers Blended Learning courses.  If you desire BLS training, please go:  https://elearning.heart.org/course/21  and take HeartCode BLS on-line.  Once you have completed the HeartCode BLS on-line Part 1 print the completion certificate and call 609-653-3962 to schedule an appointment for skills testing at Shore. 

The skills testing process takes approximately 45 minutes and the classes are limited to two students per session with an instructor.  You will have time with the instructor, to review, ask questions and practice before being tested.  The HeartCode® BLS, Part 1 Completion Certificate is required for entry into the Skills testing.   Upon successful completion of the skills portion you will be eligible to receive a BLS Provider eCard

All skills testing is held in the Conference Center across the street from the hospital, on the corner of New York Avenue and First Street.  Enter the building from the back near the parking lot.  
 
A non-refundable fee of $40 covers both your Skills Testing with the instructor and your completion card.  This can be paid with a check or Money Order or with a credit card over the phone when you are scheduling.

Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED training teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  This course teaches basic first aid, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, and CPR for adults, infants and children. The use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is also taught.  

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an electronic course completion card, which is valid for two years.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Summary:

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course presents the skills and didactic information needed to handle a cardiac arrest, and events that follow a cardiac arrest.

This course implements the AHA ACLS guidelines established in 2010 and updated in 2015. Information will be provided via mini-presentations focusing on critical points related to specific algorithms.

Description:

The core of this two-day course is the evaluation and management of the first 10 minutes of an adult, ventricular fibrillation cardiac arrest. The ACLS course is designed to give healthcare providers the basic knowledge to care for the patient in cardiac arrest and to manage acute coronary syndromes and stroke. The intended audience for this course includes: emergency, intensive care, or critical care personnel; emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, EMS, paramedics, and respiratory therapists; and other professionals who may need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Demonstrate primary and secondary ABCD. Demonstrate understanding of AHA algorithms as related to the core cases of ACLS

Apply knowledge of ECG interpretation, skills stations, and algorithms to successful completion of megacode and written exam

Pre-requisites:

  • Current AHA Basic Life Support Provider card
  • Completed ACLS pre-test with a minimum score of 70%

The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to teach healthcare providers to recognize respiratory failure & shock and to identify risk factors for cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children.

Description:

This two-day course provides participants with strategies for preventing injuries and cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. It also teaches participants how to perform the cognitive and psychomotor skills for resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.

PALS Full Course (2 days)

  • Course Fee: $275
  • Manual: $50 (American Heart Association PALS Manual 15-1058 Required for class)
