We offer a comprehensive orientation to promote a caring and safe environment for our patients, visitors and staff.

Employee Orientation

All new employees attend Organizational Orientation followed by ja detailed role specific department based orientation.

Organizational Orientation

During Organizational Orientation the new employee meets the executive team, learns about the organization's mission, vision and values, reporting structure, and current key strategic initiatives.

Employees utilize our on-line learning system NetLearning to learn about topics such as;  the environment of care, safety, infection control, ergonomics, patient rights, cultural diversity, performance improvement, HIPAA and other regulatory topics.

Role Based Orientation

Manager Orientation

Manager Orientation is a self directed process utilizing a manager orientation manual. The manual provides objectives and guides the new manager through meetings with key department managers, administrative directors, vice presidents and the CEO.

Nursing Orientation

Nursing Orientation introduces the new and experienced nurse to their role and to the department of hire. A comprehensive customized clinical orientation is provided.

Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) Orientation

Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) is a term that covers positions at Shore such as; nurses aide, orderly, transporter, and various tech positions. The orientation provided is very specific to the department role that the UAP will have. The training includes patient handling, provision of patient care needs such as hygiene, nutrition, vital signs, blood glucose monitoring and computerized documentation. The job skills are taught in the classroom prior to department orientation.

Departmental Orientation

Departmental Orientation is provided in the department and varies based on the staff member's job description and departmental specifics.

Student Orientation

Shore Medical Center provides a variety of hospital experiences for students enrolled in higher education academic programs which require clinical experience in healthcare. The process involves an affiliation agreement between the academic program and Shore. Students are then provided with an orientation to Shore and scheduled for their experience with the designated department. The healthcare experiences provided at Shore accommodates the needs of a wide range of students, from entry level healthcare positions to Advanced Practice nursing. Students may seek experiences at Shore in nursing, rehabilitation, radiology, laboratory, health information management, pharmacy, human resources, diagnostic imagery, cardiovascular services, cancer care, clinic and emergency services.

Contracted Staff Orientation

Organizational Orientation for the contracted staff is provided on-line. Completion of on-line courses is required prior to starting department/clinical orientation. Contracted staff are also expected to attend the infection control lecture during next Organizational Orientation which is offered monthly. Click here for the Dates.

Volunteer Orientation

All adult volunteers attend Organizational Orientation. During this program the volunteer meets the executive team, learns about the organization's mission, vision and values, reporting structure, the environment of care, safety, infection control, ergonomics, patient rights, cultural diversity, performance improvement, HIPAA and other regulatory topics. Orientation is offered monthly. Click here for dates All junior volunteers attend a 2.5 hour orientation. The orientation is geared towards the learning needs of the Junior Volunteer and introduces them to their role and the organization's mission, vision and values, reporting structure, the environment of care, safety, infection control, ergonomics, patient rights, cultural diversity, HIPAA and other regulatory topics. Orientation is offered periodically throughout the year.

Forensic Orientation

Forensic Orientation provides law enforcement officers with information related to safety, infection control, and HIPAA. This information is provided prior to entering the building with a person who they have in custody.
