The Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center held its 41st Annual Carole Schiavo Kids Swim for Health at the Mainland Recreation Association (MRA) in Linwood, NJ, on July 7, where 105 young swimmers raised more than $11,000 to support Shore Medical Center.
Children ranging in age from 5 to 18 swam a grand total of 7,622 laps during the event. Prior to swimming, MRA coach Mike Schiavo set an incentive lap goal for each age group, with nearly half of all swimmers meeting or exceeding their lap goal.
At a pizza party and awards ceremony hosted by the Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center on Thursday, July 20, at the MRA, Auxiliary Co-Chair Calla Waldron-Buck presented winners in each age group with prizes for the most laps and funds raised. Children who reached their lap incentive and/or raised $100 or more received prizes as well. Children were also treated to a visit from Shore Medical Center’s new ambassador, Fin the Dolphin.
Waldron-Buck says that throughout its history, the Carole Schiavo Kids Swim for Health has raised over $321,000 to support Shore Medical Center, and is an event the Auxiliary looks forward to each year.
“Every year we are impressed by the determination and hard work of these young swimmers,” said Waldron-Buck. “We thank them for working so hard to support their community hospital. They should be proud of their accomplishments, and know that their generosity goes a long way in helping Shore Medical Center continue to provide healthcare at its best.”
The Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center extends its gratitude to the following event sponsors: Shore Medical Center Medical Staff; Complete Care Linwood, Court House Center and Victoria Commons; Primo’s Pizza of Somers Point; LaPizzatega of Linwood; Manco & Manco of Somers Point; and Special Pizza City of Egg Harbor Township.
