New Pediatric Emergency Specialty Care Room at Shore Medical Center in Memory of Renee Parker Monihan

Chris Monihan and Andrea Patterson (Monihan) created the Renee Parker Monihan Memorial Fund in honor of their beloved daughter to benefit medical care for the children of our community. With a heavy heart, we humbly accepted the responsibility and privilege of creating a Pediatric Emergency Specialty Care Room at Shore Medical Center to honor Renee’s memory. The room officially opened in June 2024.

This Specialty Care Room promotes family presence and participation in patient care in a private setting, thereby alleviating some of the fear and anxiety children incur while in the hospital. This room allows for immediate evaluation and care for patients. Having all necessary equipment in one location enables multiple team members to care for a patient when seconds count.

This new room features a calming environment and is equipped with an advanced AccuVein Viewing System for drawing blood or starting an IV.  This process can be especially challenging for children because their veins can be difficult to locate. The AccuVein Viewing System helps perform IV insertion and blood draws by projecting a map of the peripheral veins on the skin, thereby simplifying the task of locating the point of needle placement. This technology has been proven to reduce stress in pediatric patients and provide another personalized touch to aid in their comfort.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who has made a gift to Shore in honor of Renee, the creation of the Specialty Care Room keeps her memory alive through the care and support the children and their families in our community, for years to come.

This project concept was developed by physicians, nurses and care team members of Shore Medical Center’s Department of Emergency Medicine, and presented to Renee’s parents, Chris and Andrea, for their approval.  Shore Medical Center leadership communicated with the Monihan family closely throughout the project’s development, involving them in non-clinical decisions whenever possible.
