Auxiliary Raises $350,500 for Shore Medical Center in 2022

The Auxiliary of Shore Medical Center presented hospital leaders on Thursday, Jan. 19 with a donation in the amount of $350,500, the cumulative proceeds of their 2022 fundraising initiatives. During the ceremony, the Auxiliary also recognized members for their years of service and installed new Auxiliary officers. 

The Auxiliary raised the funds through the hospital gift shop and its two thrift shops in Somers Point and Marmora, as well as events including the D. Allen Stretch Golf Tournament, Kids Swim for Health; Tree of Lights; High Tea; Ladies Night; flower sales; and more. 

Brenda Martello, outgoing chairperson of the Auxiliary, led the ceremony, saying, “As Chairperson for the past 4 years, it has been my pleasure and honor to work alongside the many members of the Auxiliary and Shore leadership team in continuing the over 80-year legacy of fundraising for Shore Medical Center,” Martello said.  “Despite the challenges that the pandemic brought us, we remained strong, dedicated and moved forward in our mission to support our hospital and our community to provide exceptional care for our patients. I am looking forward to working with the new board and seeing the auxiliary continue to thrive for many years to come.” 

Martello then inducted the new officers, including: 

  • Co-Chairpersons: Calla Waldron-Buck and Gerri Yollin
  • Co-Vice Chairpersons: Kim Jankowski and Cheryl Holmes
  • Treasurer: Marie Calabrese
  • Recording Secretary: Peggy Doyle
  • Corresponding Secretary: Patricia Staub
  • Membership Chair: Gerrie Medica

Following the officer induction, Martello recognized Lisa DiTroia, Director of the Auxiliary and Volunteer Services, for her partnership during Martello’s tenure as Auxiliary Chairperson. Calla Waldron-Buck, incoming chairperson, presented Martello with a gift in honor of her years of service as Chair. Afterward, guests enjoyed hors d’ oeuvres and music by violinist Mary Winkel.
